Maverick Boats Group Builds New Facility
Over 100 Jobs added to Fort Pierce area at new Cobia Boats Plant
Fort Pierce, Florida-based Maverick Boat Group is spending $6.7 million to construct a new 106,000 square foot facility which will soon house the construction of MBG's Cobia line of boats. When construction is completed later this year, the company will have added more than 100 new jobs in St. Lucie County. This in addition to the 287 skilled laborers that already work out of MBG's current 66,000 square foot facility located about a half mile from the new facility.
The company aims to produce three boats per day and 15 per week out of this new facility. At least 8-10 people are required to build each boat which will equate to additional hiring within the first year of operating. "We're very confident that within a few years we'll have 250 people working at this facility alone," Maverick Boat Group CEO, Scott Deal stated during a ground-breaking ceremony.
The strong economy for marine businesses has been growing since the lending crisis of 2009. So strong in fact that other boatbuilding companies are experiencing similar growth in the South Florida market. Literally two doors down the street from MBG's new plant, Pursuit Boats is also undergoing an expansion to meet increased sales demand.
